Linedancing Class Mon & Wed All Summer

Beginner linedance class with Lise Pyburn

Every Monday and Wednesday morning more than 50 line dancers come out to the air conditioned centre and enjoy a couple of hours together dancing. Line dancing burns calories, increases metabolism, stimulates endorphins (the body's feel-good hormone), relieves depression and anxiety, and in addition, is a general all-around stress reducer. When you get your body moving to some stimulating music and learn new steps, it stimulates your brain. Also, you will find that the Senior Center line dancers care more about having 'fun' than how accurate the dance steps are. It's all about having fun!

Dirty Dancing at Royal Alex in Toronto was a hit!!

The CN Tower in Toronto a great site!

Everyone enjoyed the bus trip to Toronto to see Dirty Dancing on Wednesday September 17th. There were almost 100 of us that enjoyed the classic story on stage at The Royal Alexandra Theatre. We hope to schedule more bus trips and are always looking for ideas as to places to go and theatres to visit.

Woodcarving Seminar Great Success

Carving Animals in Cottonwood Bark with Anna Bradley was held on Thursday June 19/08. Eight members and guests learned to find and then relief carve owls, wolves, rabbits and black bears into the thick cottonwood bark. Through all time, wood has been linked to man’s domestic and creative realms and a tree offers material for use from its trunk, branches, roots and now, bark, which can be cut, shaped, bent and carved to fulfill man’s every need. This was an enjoyable and educational day! Thanks to Brian Dent for organizing the session and to Anna Bradley for sharing her expertise.

Best Wishers to Krystle!

We would like to thank Krystle for doing a terrific job this summer welcoming members and guests at the reception desk, preparing a computer instruction manual for use by our volunteers, selling Gala tickets, memberships and programs and just being a pleasant and bubbly addition to our centre. Krystle is returning to College in the Law Clerk program and we are confident that success will follow her wherever she goes. We wish her good luck and hope that she has a great year at school.

Tim Hortons Sponsors Askennonia Walking Group

Tim Hortons has kindly donated fanny packs to members of our walking group. They meet Thursday mornings at 9:30 am for a one hour walk about town, geared to accomodate participants of all levels. Some walk faster and further than others, and there is no pressure to 'keep up'. New walkers take the shorter or less demanding route. Thanks to Lise Pyburn and Edith Bell for leading this group. The fanny packs will come in very handy to carry the walkie talkies, cell phones and water bottles that tag along on every walk. Thanks Tim Hortons!
