Arts Programs Fall 2009
If the left side of your brain has been telling the right side of your brain to get out and exercise your imagination, then the Arts @ Askennonia will help you find your creative side! (click on Read the full story below.)
This Fall we offer Watercolour on Thursdays, Acrylic on Mondays, Woodcarving on Wednesdays, Beading every other Tuesday, Craft Club on first and third Tuesday, Creative Writing Mondays and a series of Photography Workshops on Tuesdays. We have Open Studio on Monday afternoons, when participants in any of the Arts @ Askennonia can come in to practice or finish work. People can express themselves musically at both the Coffee House (jam session) or by singing with the new Choir directed by John French & Victoria Thompson.
Jackie Sture (creator of beautiful peonies painting) offers watercolour lessons the first 2 weeks of November and Charmaine Marier will instruct the last weeks at $8 per class sold only by the Month = $32. MJ Weber offers acrylic painting at $15 per class. Please register before the end of Oct for Nov classes. Glenalda Tuck will teach the art of Ribbon Embroidery at Craft Club in November. Craft Club is a 1:30 pm ‘drop in’ and open to the entire community, meaning you do not need a membership or pay anything to attend. All are welcome. Jeanette Brunelle teaches beading twice per month and provides attendees with patterns to make amazing jewelry and art pieces ($1 per visit). The woodcarvers meet weekly (no charge) and have the choice of working on a group project or working individually. They help newcomers learn the techniques and support each other with tips and suggestions. Creative Writing is led by retired English teacher, John Phillips. John encourages the group to remember life’s stories, to express present-day thoughts and to have fun with writing. The fruits of their labours often end up in the monthly newsletter or on our web site. This weekly class is free to members.
By the way, everyone can learn to paint, carve, craft, write, take pictures and sing. It’s just a matter of setting time aside for you and then coming out to learn. Not everyone’s picture looks the same, of course, but that’s what makes you unique. It’s amazing what you can do if you have good teachers and are having a bit of fun! Memberships for the rest of the year cost less than a cup of coffee per week, so come out and explore all that Askennonia has to offer for 55+ North Simcoe residents!
