Gala Evening with Jim Witter - Fri. Sept 17/10
Mark Sept 17 on your calendar, because you won't want to miss Gala 2010. This year, Jim Witter will take us down memory lane through the music of Billy Joel,Simon and Garfunkel and Elton John,. We will have a, cocktail hour, fabulous dinner, wine and entertainment. Tickets are $75.00 per person and available now at the membership desk at Askennonia. Please pay by cheque. Bus Trip to see "Wicked" - Wed. Nov 24th
Plan ahead now and pick up your tickets to see " Wicked", an exciting new musical which is receiving rave reviews. Bus departs the NSSRC at 9am and returns at approx. 7pm. Excellent seats $130.00 pp and available at the membership desk. Don't miss out.
We felt the Earthquake, but missed the Tornado during June 23/10 Picnic
The forcast was thunder showers, so we held our annual Picnic indoors this year. Everyone enjoyed the lunch and the dancing to Dr. Melnyk and the Grumpy Old Guys. The Cloggers did a great job of both preparing lunch and entertaining. Many thanks to the Villa and Bayfield House for delivering ice cream and to Retire-At-Home for helping with much of the work setting and cleaning up. It was a great day. Thanks to all who contributed.
Annual General Meeting, Luncheon & Haiti Bake Sale - Wed. March 31
Thank you to all the members who attended our Annual General Meeting and luncheon. We had a good turnout and it is nice to see such support for the centre. Gord Laco delivered and excellent talk on his experiences during bootcamp. Michelle Lloyd from The Villa and Chris White from the Bayfield House Retirements Lodges sponsored a delicious lunch. Thank you.
Diane & Larry Chapman held a Bake Sale with the proceeds going to Haitian relief, raising approx. $400.00. Great job!
Thanks you to all those who volunteered helping to make the event a wonderful success.
St. Patrick's Day Party - Wed. March 17
Askennonia celebrated St. Patrick's Day with great food, entertainment and music. Over 200 attended the event all enjoying performances from the Cloggers, Priscilla Galloway, Linedancers, Emily King and "Just Attitude".
A huge thank you to President Vi and Marion who prepared the delicious irish stew and all the volunteers who helped make the event such a success. The Villa and Bayfield House Retirement Lodges sponsored the yummy dessert squares which were a hit. Thank you Michelle and Chris. Watch the newsletter for other great events.
St. Patrick's Day Party - Wed. Mar 17/10
Once again Askennonia is gearing up for our Annual St. Patrick's Day Party. This promises to be a fun afternoon full of entertainment, food and fellowship. Emily King, a local 13 yr old singer will share her beautiful voice with us. Don't forget to wear green!

Cindy Thompson @ Midland's 25th Winterfest
Askennonia Senior Centre and Midland’s Winterfest were pleased introduce Cindy Thompson on stage to celebrate Midland’s 25th Winterfest on Saturday, February 6.
Cindy’s electrifying performances have earned her a reputation as one of Canada’s premiere combination fiddle player/stepdancers. A former national Canadian stepdance champion and winner of numerous fiddle awards, she performed in her own inimitable style, full of spontaneity, fun and musical excellence.(click Read the full story...)
Askennonia models strut their stuff!
Askennonia members did a wonderful job of presenting the latest fall fashions from Patricia’s and Patricia’s Petites at the Wed. Oct 29 Fall Fashion Show. The afternoon was hosted by the Askennonia Tai Chi group, who provided cheese, crackers and fruit for the 175 attendees. Our sponsors, The Villa and Bayfield House Retirement Lodges, complemented the lunch with fruit loaves and door prizes. Doug Hill filled the room with old favorites, while Sandra Taylor did a wonderful job with the commentary. Thanks to all volunteers who made this event successful!
