Community Resource Navigator
Askennonia Senior Centre – Reach Out and Touch Someone Program
Contract Position: 3 Days per Week
​
Position Summary
The Community Resource Navigator plays a vital role in supporting older adults to access the services, information, and supports they need to live well, remain independent, and stay connected. Through one-on-one guidance, system navigation, and advocacy, this role ensures seniors can confidently navigate health, financial, housing, and social systems.
​
This position is part of Askennonia’s long-standing Reach Out and Touch Someone Program, which has supported over 1,000 local seniors. In addition to client support, the Navigator contributes to the daily operations of the Centre, supports events and programming, and helps foster a welcoming and inclusive environment for all members.

Key Responsibilities
​
Client Support & Navigation

Provide individualized support to seniors seeking information about community resources, including healthcare, financial assistance, housing, transportation, social programs, and caregiver supports.

Conduct intake assessments to understand each client’s needs, goals, and challenges.

Offer warm referrals and assist clients with applications, forms, and eligibility requirements.

Maintain up-to-date knowledge of local and regional services relevant to older adults.

Advocate for clients when appropriate, helping reduce barriers to accessing services.

Maintain accurate, confidential client records in accordance with privacy standards.

Program & Community Engagement
-
Plan and deliver monthly educational seminars on topics relevant to seniors (e.g., health, finances, safety, community resources).

Support the development and implementation of new programs and initiatives as services expand.

Assist with coordination and delivery of events and activities at the Centre.

Contribute to outreach efforts to increase awareness of available supports and programs.

Operations & Administrative Support

Assist with day-to-day operations of the Centre, including opening and closing duties.

Provide general office and administrative support as needed.

Act as a key point of support to the Executive Director, helping manage priorities and workflow.

Support a welcoming, inclusive, and organized environment for members and visitors.

Food Security Initiative Support
-
Source, organize, and manage monthly or quarterly produce markets.

Liaise with suppliers, donors, and community partners to ensure successful delivery of markets.

Collaboration & Flexibility
-
Work collaboratively with community partners, healthcare providers, and social service agencies.

Adapt to evolving community needs and organizational priorities with flexibility.

Take on additional responsibilities as required to support the growth of the Centre.

Qualifications
-
Post-secondary education in Social Work, Gerontology, Community Services, or a related field.

Minimum 5 years of experience supporting seniors in community, healthcare, or social service settings (preferred).

Strong understanding of aging-related issues and community service systems.

Excellent communication, problem-solving, and advocacy skills.

Strong organizational skills and ability to manage confidential information.

Proficiency with computers, including email, databases, Microsoft Office, and Excel.
